Exodus of Workers in Cane Furniture Industry
The cane furniture industry recently had a mass exodus of workers to Middle East. About one hundred killed cane furniture designers, polishers, and craftsmen are now being employed in cane furniture companies in the Middle East. These countries that have emerging cane furniture industries include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Dubai. The realtivly cheap and economically beneficial climate of these countries allows the exporters of cane furniture to rake in bigger profits than in the US or other western established economy.
“Consumers always want speed in their orders, they want to see something that are ready-made. Some Middle Eastern importers cut down their inventories and found it more feasible to put up plants [in their home lands],” said Basubas, who owns Diamond Cane furniture plant in Cebu.
Consumers want their cane furniture to be fast, affordable and of good quality. Since, the production of the cane furniture has gone abroad to locations of less expense, the saving will rightly be given consumers. The less expensies will also increase the quality of cane furniture as more capital is freed up to be placed into better design of cane furniture.
However, this does come with certain downsides this exodus brings a downfall in the US manufacturer of cane furniture. Thus, the wicker furniture industry or cane furniture industry will be hurt by the sale of cheaper and better cane furniture that comes from abroad.
Therefore, we have a choice to make is it better to help out the cane furniture industry in the US, or is it better for the consumer of cane furniture to get a better quality and cheaper piece of cane furniture.
